During the summer of 2009 I captained Leyland CC Under11’s and South Ribble District Under11’s to win all 5 competitions we played in, including both county cups. In addition to playing cricket, during the winter I play football and I have been a member of the Blackburn Rovers Academy for the last five years. I also enjoy playing rugby at school during the winter months. I want to go to Barbados to play cricket because it would be a different experience than playing in England. It would be hot and the pitches would be hard and ideal for batting on. I would like to see the way of life and the culture in a Caribbean country; I enjoy meeting people from different countries and hearing about their way of life. It would be a great to experience Bahian cricket with all my friends and to have a good time in a hot, fun country!

JOHN HOOD (TEAM SCORER)

I first came across Lancashire Junior County Cricket in 1986 when the Lancashire U11s came down for the first time to the old ESCA U11 Festival held in Kent. I was the organiser and also ran the Kent U11s. The Lancashire manager was fellow Everton fan John Wylie. Jack Harwood, who sadly revealed himself to be a Liverpool fan, was his assistant and John Charlson was one of the parents and he later went onto manage the Lancashire U11s until his recent retirement. I still have the scorebook. The names of the Lancashire Team were A. Cook, D. Charlson, D. Rogers, S. Murray, A. Rae, L. Wilkinson, L. Hansen, J. Fallon, P. Poynton, D. Alred, M. Doggett and R. Lowe. They must all be about 35 now. One of the Kent boys was Mark Lawless, who took four wickets in that match. I met him again two years ago as a father of one of the Kent players at Taunton. This really made me feel old.
Every Lancashire Team I have ever seen has always been enthusiastic and full of life and zest. They certainly enlivened the Kent scene for all the time they were there. Our match with them was always considered one of the highlights of the season, and many of the boys who played went on to County Cricket and five have played for the full England Team, either in Tests or One Day Internationals. Many other boys, just as talented, chose not to pursue a career in cricket.
Junior County Cricket is great fun, wonderful entertainment and, usually with Lancashire, nerve-racking. I can not think of a better way to spend a summer.
